My Creative Space

The inevitable "it's not that difficult" phrase is getting ready to come out of my mouth,

wait for it...........

My mom came to visit for a a bit this week and while as a mom myself I don't enjoy the fact that she showed up with a weeks worth of junk food for my kids. I was excited for her sewing skills to arrive at my doorstep. And indeed they did because you know what??

The buttonhole mystery is a thing of the past......"at least with this machine"

And you guessed it, it's really not that difficult at all. Funny how something you curse at for days turns into a simple step once you know the tricks. Basically my machine has a buttonhole foot that would have worked the other times I tried it. If I would have known to pull down the lever that it hits to make it sew  in the opposite direction.  But yep there it is , I still haven't used this skill on my almost finished clothes, still a bit nervous but I think if I do it a few more times I will gain the courage to do so.

I have also finally started a Milo for the 3yr old.  I am so excited for the cooler weather that's just around the corner. My creating desires are through the roof at the moment.

As if it doesn't show........

Hope you are enjoying everyone's creative juices over at Kirsty's today.
Have a good one!

Oh its so good to finally master something you've been afraid of. Buttonholes surprised me too :) Love the colour you're knitting with there, but I'm looking forward to summer dresses ;)

Well done on the buttonholes! It took me ages to figure mine out too with the lever! So simple when you know how though!

Button holes are still to come for me, but you have given me hope that once the basics are learnt they are no longer scarey! Love the colour yarn you are knitting with : )

Milos rock, I have made many of them (I think I might be a little bit addicted to that pattern).

Buttonholes belong in the same league as zips, I reckon. All bark, no bite. Took me 39 years to realise this, of course...

I have never done buttonholes. I've always avoided doing them. Actually I'm not sure my 40 year old machine can do buttonholes. Well done for learning and hope your kids aren't on a sugar high for too long!

I'm with you on the junk food and the sewing skills when it comes to Grandma. Great that you have it down pat now! I will have to look up this mysterious Milo pattern. Sounds very popular.

Congrats on your button hole discovery, I know how that is. I just posted my semi whoas over my hem foot. I plan on mastering this skill asap, so I can move on to some different sewing. Maybe on to how to make the perfect length opening for button holes, mine are always too small or too big.

Good on you for mastering that button hole, and yeah for Mum's who can help. I learnt at high school but have forgotten since then, I should learn again one day.:)

Yehaa - great to finally learn something you've been wanting to do! I'm still trying to figure out mine LOL. Sewing skills skipped a generation in our family, so I'm on my own. There'll be no stopping you now!
I'm looking forward to seeing your Milo and which cable you choose. I've done the owl cable and hope to try another out next autumn.
