My Creative Space

It's been a challenge to find craft time this week. My wonderful 2yr old has decided to up the "mess factor" around here. And I have been completely exhausted running after him. We have been trying to potty train, which he totally gets but thinks it more fun to see how fast mommy can chase him down before he pee's on the floor...So we have returned to diapers for now..Pull-ups are too easy to pull down..Good grief...And just today a carton of eggs met the floor and fridge shelves while a pepper grinder full of peppercorns met the living room floor and table..AGGHHH

But alas I still have a bit of time for craftyness.Even if it involves extra messes to clean up..And like we all do from time to time, I need some help! I love this fabric from Ikea I've had it for awhile but I can't figure out what to do with it. As you can see I made a scarf and am thinking of cutting some of the animals out and being creative that way but I just don't know what to do....What would you do???

And of course still working on the poncho's

Feel free to be nosey and check out other creative spaces over at Kirsty's

Oh yes, I know where you're coming from, still remember the days of having a tornado two year old. I like the fabric but I'm afraid I am useless with creative fabric ideas.

Lovely poncho :-) My current strategy with cool animal print fabric is to applique the pictures onto clothes. The other thing you could do is make some fabric boxes - have you seen the ones Nikki at My Black Cardigan made a while ago? http://myblackcardigan.blogspot.com/2009/07/basket-or-box.html
I think they're very cool and your fun animal fabric would be perfect!! Have fun dreaming....

Oooh...I like the idea of the boxes.

The poncho is lovely. The fabric is fabulous, but I don't know I'd make, I'd probaby put it with all my other special fabrics I don't know what to do with. Perhaps a bag or a pillow?

That fabric would be perfect for library bags for the kids!

Hope the 2 year old gives you some time to craft next week!

I love the fabric! Library bag is a good idea, otherwise a cushion or two?

Hi there! Can totally relate to toddler wrangling right now - fun isn't it!? Nice fabric - maybe a softie in the same shape as one of the animals? Good luck!

Oh, those ponchos of yours are gorgeous. That fabric would be lovely as a pillow, bag, little shorts...I hope you get a little time to yourself to have a play with it.

Your ponchos are gorgeous. The Ikea fabric is fabulous - maybe a lamp shade for the two year old? Or a library bag is a great idea. My 1 and 3 year old are collectively known as "Search and Destroy" so you have my sympathis too.

Cute fabric! How about a pencil roll - otherwise it could be feature pockets on a plain pair of kids jeans or cords.
I like the ponchos too. And I TOTALLY empathise on the house!

I think perhaps we should start a new meme called 'my disaster zone' in which we can post pictures of our messy kids/pets/spouses. Yesterday we had wee on the floor and there is always one condiment or another being smeared everywhere. Ick.

Lots of good fabric ideas already. I would cut out the animals and make simple softies (or little animal 'cushions') and hang them up to make a mobile.

What a crazy time for you... The fabric is yummy girl... make stuffy toys with coordinating back material. If you don't I will lol... Thanks for stopping by my blog too. If you change your reply setting on your blogger profile I can respond directly to your comments. Otherwise I'll just comment in here lol

That poncho is so very pretty Amanda. My only idea would be to maybe make a library bag or you could maybe make some little shorts? Not sure if that helps.:)

so sorry for the mess ~ a real energy sapper i bet
some great ideas ~ glad (as a non-sewing person) to see someone else say a library bag because that was my first thought, but love the mobile idea, the clothes patches idea, the little softies.

Sorry - you have zapped my brain clear of ideas for your Ikea fabric (I say wait until some notion hits you clean over the head) because you distracted me with your poncho. That. Is. Beautiful. (gulp!)

I hear you on the 2 year old bit. For the longest time, my daughter new how to use the potty but just couldn't be bothered. Now she loves to use it but wants to go every 15 minutes, so every time I start to do something I hear, "I have to go potty!" She can do a lot of it herself, but she's got quite a lengthy ritual and I often have to stop what I'm doing to help in some way.... Exciting that she's getting it, but so much more time consuming than I ever realized! Good luck!

Ah, 2 year olds. Don't you love them? :-)

The poncho looks very cute! And that fabric, well, I think I would use it in one of the little ones' rooms. They would love that animal fabric on or around their beds and toys.
