Strawberry Beret

You can always count on a random hat pattern from me every now and then. So to not disappoint here is one I whipped up today. Although nothing like the actual Strawberry Shortcake hat, it still sort of reminds me of hers so I will just call it the Strawberry Beret.



The best part is this hat is insanely quick and easy to make. In fact the mini photo shoot to show it off proved more time consuming then actually making it.
No Kidding....


Figured you might want to make one too..

Super chunky yarn, I used Rowan Spray
Size K hook..6.50 mm
this makes about a 12 month size but can be easily  up sized.
US terms

(Ch3 counts as dc)

Row1 Ch 4, dc in 1st chain 11 times, join to 4th ch. of starting chain (12)

Row 2 Ch3, dc in same space, 2 dc in each stitch around join(24)

Row 3 Ch3 *2dc in next dc, 1dc in following, repeat from * ending in 2 dc join (36)

Row 4 Ch3, dc in next 4 dc's, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc's repeat from * join (42)

Row 5 Ch3, dc in each dc join
Row 6 Ch3, dc in each dc join
Row 7 Ch 1 sc in each dc join

Row 8 Ch 1 sc in next 3 sc's, *sc 2 tog, sc in next 4 sc's repeat from * join

Row 9 Ch 1 sc in each sc, join
Row 10 Ch 1 sc in each sc, fasten off

    Pat, if you simply take out the last increase row and just simply work in each dc instead that should do it, but if that is too small you can simply space out the increases a few more stitches. :)

    this is gorgeous - I'm new to knitting and crocheting - and only doing it so I can make my pwn photography props. I would love to try this on holiday but am a bit stuck! So do you do 11 dc in the first chain hole? And then how does one join to the 4th? It will beinteresting to see hoe I get on without youtube backup!! Thanks

    I love this hat and would like to make it for my daughter but I am having trouble making it a bigger size. Can you please explain how I would go about making it into a girls size for an 8 year old?

    Bella, the easiest way to upsize the pattern would be to make the increases on the last increase row closer together as well as add an extra non increase row. I have not tried it but I would go with increasing after two stitches and see if that does it. If that is too big make the increase more spread out or you could always add another increase row eliminating the need for another non increase row. Hope that helps some.

    Thanks for this great hat pattern. I whipped it up in less than an hour tonight. I used a super bulky yarn but added a medium worsted yarn with it....looks adorable on my little girl:)

    I just made this for a new born size, it is gorgeous! I can't get super chunky yarn here so I used two yarns in purple and pink. I skipped round 3 and went to 2dc, dc in next 2dc, 2dc in next dc. Then went on to round 5. What a wonderful cozy, funky baby hat! Thanks again

    I am trying to increase this hat to fit a 19inch head child. Do I just repeat row 2 again for row 3 and then continue the way it is written (row 3 becomes row 4 and so on)? Or is there a better way?
