Nervous.....

If you remember me posting about Shay's issues with his boy parts...Well last week he went in for an ultrasound and it did appear to be a Hydrocele other then the fact that it wasn't completely clear like a hydrocele usually appears..So honestly I have no clue what could have caused that if it is exactly that or otherwise...

Of course as usual the Tech didn't give nor did she appear to have a clue on any answers as to what it might be...So I have been patiently waiting for them to call back to review the results with me...

And wouldn't ya know I missed the call today by maybe 10mins..She waited til the end of the day and was already gone by the time I returned her call...Grrr so now I have been worried/racking my brain as to what else it could possibly be but hopefully tomorrow morning we will get some answers...

Praying it is still a simple Hydrocele even though it will more then likely still require drainage at first to test and then surgery..It's better then some of the scary "Google" stuff I happened upon in my search for answers...

I will update when I get more info of course..

Neapolitan Scarf

Trying to use up my stash.......And for whatever reason being drawn toward scarves lately so the two combined into this scarf that I liken to Neapolitan ice cream...I thought it would be a quick make but ended up taking me a few days...

Now that I see it in pictures it looks almost like a Neapolitan cow scarf haha...

Simple beginnings....

This simple Double Crochet blanket was my first big project...And I am proud to say it's been to Iraq and back :)....It was a gift for the Hubby while he was deployed, he said during the few weeks he was stuck in transit coming home it was a lifesaver because they had to sleep on cots with the clothes on their back pretty much so other then being a little short to fit over his whole body it did the job. :)

I love that it has a story and it was significant in my crochet life too...

My House...Fort Polk

I can be a bit nosey and enjoy sneaking a peak on the way others live....Thought I would do a little sharing myself. :)

So this is life here on Fort Polk, like most Base housing we are a bit crunched but try to make the best of it....So here are a few pics from around the house :)

Our teeny tiny Alley Kitchen which I dislike more and more each day...Must have for next place (bigger kitchen)

Our dining room

And living room

And of course the front of the house...

He's back....

Doing a little jig....:)

I have not had a chance to get to all my Creative Spaces this week and I am having withdrawls but I am so excited that hubby is back..I feel whole again :)

This morning Shay has a Dr.'s appt. And afterwards I plan on jumping into all those spaces I have yet to see :)

My Creative Space..

Play along over at Kirsty's

I have been working on different things this week, kind of all over the place with my ideas...Think I caught a case of the A.D.D Crochet...haha...I got a big book of crochet stitches recently and I have having fun going through the book and trying to be creative with the different styles...Which leads to sleepless nights because of course that's when your brain wants to go crazy with ideas...Go figure..

Pumpkin bread recipe

Finally gave in and used my bread maker...Seriously why do I not use it more???? Decided since I am anxious for Fall to get here that I would get in the spirit a little early and make some Pumpkin Bread...YUM I am loving it!!! And by the look of the pic you can tell someone else is too :P

Here is the recipe with a few alterations. Original can be found here

Ingredients
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie)
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups+3 tbs of Cake flour or
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

IMPORTANT: This is a Quick Bread, the cycle of your machine should clearly say QUICK BREAD. If the cycle says anything else, such as Express, then this recipe will not work since it does not contain yeast, and is designed for the QUICK BREAD cycle.
Place all ingredients in your breadmaker pan following manufacturer's recommended order.

Select Quick Bread cycle only. Wait like 5 minutes into cycle, open lid and scrape down sides and bottom of the pan, close lid and let the cycle finish.

Wait for it to cool down before you slice it, of course, if you can wait :).

A few new styles

Been trying to come up with some more "boyish" hats. Got a little creative while watching my shows last night. True Blood, Army Wives and Dropdead Diva....I am a little sad there are only a few TB's left :( I guess that means I get to read the next few books and be one step ahead of the new season next summer.

Back to the hats! I haven't figured out the sizing quite yet but I think these are perfect for little boys...What do you think??

Wishing I was here....

The heat and humidity of the south can cause an outdoor person to stay inside way too much. I miss the warm kiss of the sun and the cool breeze that California offers.
Took this picture last summer in Huntington Beach while staying with my sister. She is so lucky to live here. I was going for walks and runs everyday soaking up every ounce of beautiful weather. After living in the south for a few years I will never take that weather for granted again.

The big weekend project

So I don't own a japanese craft book (as much as I would love to have all of them) but inspiration is the next best thing right??? I looked at a few online and got some cute ideas...So here is my version of the half fabric/half yarn bag...

It was a big feat to tackle as a starter project for this particular thing and I did tons wrong but I think it's a cute overnight bag for Alexis and I will improve with the next one, no doubt!!!

Crochet Neck Warmer...Cowl whatever...

I have been branching out on my own a lot lately not wanting to follow patterns "if it isn't already obvious" haha...I was experimenting with a stitch pattern and ended up going through a skein of yarn. I thought wow this would be a great neck warmer...A strategically positioned button later and here it is....

If I wasn't typing one handed trying to appease Shay with his addiction to holding my hand "which I love most of the time" I would totally write up the pattern. But it will have to come later..hopefully tomorrow. I really feel I should contribute to the land of tutorials...So stay tuned :)

When they are gone...

So of course the hubby is still gone, in the field, working whatever you want to call it...And I have found myself on the couch more then I would like to admit. It really is pathetic but my days have been reduced to getting excited about what is on TV for the week...That is so sad...

Tonight Project Runway is back, I am so glad it's finally time for a new season. Normally I would consider it a guilty pleasure but tonight it is simply a way to pass time and not think about how bored and lonely I am.

And then I feel stupid. Come on you have dealt with a deployment and had to wait 10 months just for R&R what the heck is 3 weeks...Well honestly barely a blip on the separation scale but I think inevitably part of me reverts back into that mode. And this absolutely no contact thing is killing me..I know if I could just talk to him every now and then I would be handling this a lot better...

Truth is separation is just that Separation no matter how you look at it and it's never going to be easy. I just need to get over myself and be thankful for TV haha...

Yay Project Runway!!!!

8.19.2009

My Creative Space

Come play with me at Kirsty's

This week I've been all over with my crafting....Crochet of course, Sewing and even a little knitting. Go Me!!!

Thanks to Lucy's awesome blanket that combines a little of knit and crochet. I have been dying to do something similar...Well it didn't take me long to get started haha, I am loving it so far so Thanks Lucy for the idea :)

And since I am forever stashing crochet hooks EVERYWHERE to try and keep them away from my 2yr old I decided to make up a granny square pouch lined with a zipper...I am loving this idea and plan on making more, isn't it so cute??

A father's birthday...

Sunday is my dad's birthday....The man is impossible to shop for, every year me and my sister brainstorm of something to get him that he will use or will be atleast set out somewhere and not stuffed in a closet lol...

I ended up getting a good deal on a really nice shirt here on base something he would totally wear so that made me happy but I wanted to add something more personal and what is more personal then handmade..:) Since I had to mail it out ASAP it had to be something quick but necessary...

Hot pads!!! He lives alone so he doesn't make huge meals but I figure they will come in handy for the single pot meals or just pulled out of the microwave ones...

So I whipped up a few of these, they have a loop on the back so he can hang them up and give his dull white kitchen some color to boot...

8.18.2009

Suprise around every corner

Up at 6:00 this morning, not so bad except I finally fell asleep close to 2:00 ugh...Then there is the A's who decided to be loud and wake Shay up so there was no going back to sleep. Ok I'll accept that.

Wait the A's are leaving and I can't go with them "raced through Shay's brain" And then a tantrum ensued for 30 mins. Lovely way to start the day!!!! I will use some of this morning energy to vacuum, why isn't it sucking anything up.........???

Could it be the paint brush and screwdriver that has caused a backup in the tube...NICE...45 mins later I get that taken care of...There went my cleaning energy..

I'll just sit down and have a cup of nice cold Orange Juice, sounds yummy...Why the heck is the O.J warm???? OOOOH apparently Shay decided the knob for the temp in the fridge was for his enjoyment therefore he set it to OFF....

I won't even begin to describe the mess from the dog..Apparently diapers are delicacies..GRRRRRR

Ahhh I GIVE UP!!! I am gonna curl up on the couch for a bit to try and recover before I go insane for the day.....

8.17.2009

Gummy Bear overload...

I recently picked up a HUGE bag of Gummy bears for $6 dollars here on base..3lbs to be exact...Wow right??

Well I tried to have a little fun with them today with my camera, not only was the natural light cruddy thanks to the big rainy clouds but Shay was just not having it...Pretty much every picture has these cute little fingers in the shot. Who can resist a gummy bear anyways?? Can't hold it against him I suppose :P

Banana blow your mind....

Holy Cow!! I found this recipe, "if you want to call it that" on this BLOG And just tried it out this afternoon..Love it!!! In her post she just says to take frozen banana in your food processor and let it run for 5 mins or so and voila!! But I am a bit impatient so I added a few Tbs of milk and it gave it enough moisture to finish the job quicker...

That's really all you do...And it is exactly like eating banana soft serve..I added some honey to top mine off for an added bit of sweetness...Yummm I have a feeling we are going to being buying tons and tons of bananas once the A's get a hold of this ;)

Look....you know you want to throw some of those almost too ripe bananas in the freezer and try this out tonight :)

8.16.2009

Crochet Today

I am loving the latest issue of Crochet Today...I normally steer clear of crochet magazines because usually there are only one or two patterns I would use. But there are soooo many in this one that I am loving. So of course I had to start trying them out..This little acorn is too cute and can hold little trinkets/jewelry to boot...Love it...

Hexagon Lovin'

Not that I have had much time to work on it, but the hexagons are multiplying..slowly but surely...It's turning into my bored project and I am ok with that. I have no time line for this thing so whenever it's done it's done but til then you can find me late at night when the kids are in bed and there is nothing on t.v making my hexagons...

School and 1 week down...

First day of school for the A's, three kiddos in three different schools. Thank goodness for the bus system I would never stop driving....And I can't even believe I have a 7th grader who will also be a teenager in less then a few months..Holy Cow...

And we officially have one week down on the 3 week "in the field" stint..It's inching by and I am bored as ever but I am a little more optimistic then I was a few days ago so I guess that's a good thing...Maybe this week will go a little faster then last...:)

Yummy

So I am up late browsing around with the t.v on in the background...I hear go to Snacklish.com And what do you do when it's late your awake and bored....You Go!!! And so I went...Insert my name and here I am snickerized :P Yummm now I want one..

And here is Hubby...I do concur...:P

8.12.2009

My Creative Space

Yay it's time for me to check out all the creative spaces over at Kirsty's come play along or just be nosey and check them all out :)

This is my last week of "must crochet" hats...So guess what I am doing?? Going hat crazy. My goal is to have 40 items to send to her and I am more then halfway there woot woot!!!

So here is my end of the dining table...Of course a tad more organized then usual for the picture. I am loving the black and white flower hats the only thing is the buttons I have used for my pink hats and these (and the few in the bottom corner) are from New York and well I can't just pop over there and get more...I think I need to make a friend in NYC to do some shopping for me. Cause no matter how hard or long I look I can't find them anywhere..grrrr

Oh and look at this...I even took a few minutes to clean up my small fabric stash :) I am hoping to do a little sewing next week to give my fingers a break from crochet.

8.11.2009

This can not be comfortable....

You know you watch too many Disney movies when the first thing you think of when you look at this pic is......"10,000 years will give you such a creak in the neck" yep gottal love that Genie :P

No but really how he sleeps in these contorted ways is beyond me. I mean he will twist and turn and toss until this is how he ends up?????

I guess it's just one of those things I will never understand..

Yay for Shay, and Mommy too!

The A's are home!!! Of course they are all hyped up and jumping around goingc razy but honestly with Scott being gone it makes me feel normal again.

And Shay well he is in heaven already running around hitting his brothers over the head with one of the toys they brought home...Go figure...

Andrew is excited Dad is in the field so he can catch up on the game he is playing, hoping to get up to where dad is in the game.

I am just so glad they are home safe and sound and I can sleep easier at night. Now time to start preparing for school on friday. I can't believe I have a 7th grader on my hands. I remember those days, I thought I knew it all. I am sooo in trouble lol..

My break from cleaning and going easy with dinners is over and I couldn't be happier.

Alexis gets one too...

When the Alexis comes home and see's the bracelet I know she will want one. So I figured what the heck I will make one for her..That's what moms are for right???

Hope I didn't stretch it out too much with my big ole hands :P

Crochet Creations

I was making a few headbands yesterday and then just went off on a tangent..This is what I came up with, a rosette bracelet...

In other more frustrating news I just got a random call asking for Scott (CPL Tipton) I told her he wasn't here and that he was in the field. She asked if I knew how to get a hold of him in the field..And of course I don't cause Scott is just not thorough in that way. So that was that...

Now of course I am kicking myself because I didn't ask more questions. Why did she call, what does she need him for? is it urgent? etc etc...And of course Dangit I can't get ahold of him so I have to wait til the end of the month before I know what it is...AGHHHHH One of these days I will learn to be more aggressive...

8.09.2009

Getting out of the house...

I have been a shut in lately, with the heat and now with Scott being gone. It's been quite boring around here. But I promised Shay we would get out for a little bit each day. Hopefuly as early as possible before it gets to hot out..

Yeah at 10:30 it was super hot and humid but we got out of the house that's what counts.

Today's activity was the swings :)

Green Smoothie Goodness...

Oh Green Smoothie how I missed you...it's been a few months since I fell off the G.S wagon. Not sure why but I got out of the habit and am happy to report I am back in again!!

If you read or watch anything about health these days you will most definitely find some form of the Green Smoothie..These things are amazing and really do, do wonders for your health not to mention fill your tummy so you aren't eating crud til lunch :P

My G.S is made up of..

1 banana
1 slice of fresh pineapple
4 or so slices of frozen peaches
4 or so ice cubes
about half cup of o.j
1 cup of water
handful of Spinach, I know yuck but you can't taste it I promise...

And this is what it will look like, don't be scared even the 2yr old loves it!!!

Crochet Hexagon

Ok so it's only one but it's my first one ever...I know these things are said to be addictive and I can see why...They are fun to make and the color combos are endless...

I do have plenty of scrap pieces laying around, I might have to do a few every now and then and slowly build a blanket..For now I am just excited to have finished my
1st. Yay me...

And if you want to have a go yourself I found the pattern tutorial Here

How do you open a banana

Came across this video and well I think it is one of those things you scratch your head about and wonder why haven't I ever thought of that or heard of it before...Leave it to the monkey's....

Off to try this out!!

Doing the potty dance

We have hit a huge potty training milestone..Shay did poo poo'd in the potty...Whoohoo...For about a week we have had him running around half naked and he seems to have the pee'ing part down although he will forget every now and then but for the most part he recognizes what is going on. (of course only while naked at this point)...

Well today he finally did the big poopoo and we just finished up our celabatory 5 minute dance session....

It really is all about when they want to do things, that's for sure. He started to show signs and I promptly followed his lead. Makes life so much easier IMO...

I think we may graduate to pull-ups out and about and underwear at home in a few days..

Back to the celebration!!!

8.07.2009

Crochet Clutch

I think I have Crochet on the brain..Well it's obvious I do because when I went back to sleep after Scott left this morning. I dreamt of a little crochet clutch...I know I am probably in good company "the whole dreaming of things to make biz" but it is just weird to me....So of course on top of the few hats I finished and a quick trip to the grocery store I put this little pink clutch together..Surprised myself completely...I have never even attempted to make a tutorial of any kind but maybe someday I will get the guts to write this one up...:)

Day 1

Well Scott left early this morning for the field....For those who have no clue what that means, he basically goes about ten miles into the wilderness that is Lousiana and plays Army...

So he is not far from home but he might as well be because he won't be able to come back for 3 weeks.....:(

I don't know why I am having such a hard time with this..I am sure in a couple days it will all be familiar to me but right now I just keeping thinking how much being in this place sucks. And the only adult I have to talk to is, well not here. I think once the A's get back on Tuesday life will feel a little more normal but right now I am just being a little down on myself...

I guess I should take advantage of the little bit of extra free time and crochet, I do still have my monster Shay so it's not all "boring" but it's simple dinnners and minimal cleaning for a little while anyways.

I will be ok and the fog will lift soon, just need a bit to adjust I suppose.

8.06.2009

How do you like that????

OK so I am guilty for giving in to the toddler of the house.. I know I know bad mom..But sometimes I think by giving in to what he wants he will find out he doesn't want it/like it and move on...Well in today's lesson that wasn't the case..

Shay decided to wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning..And I was not ready to deal with tantrums...He initially wanted a Popsicle for breakfast..UMMM no not happening..But after I sat down with my coffee and ignored his whines he went into the fridge and pulled out the creamer (french vanilla coffee mate) Walked over to the table and asked for some...

I told him ewwww you won't like that it's not milk and went on with my spiel but he was very calm and direct about his desires so I said ok fine...Totally thinking he would not like it..WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! I gave him a little...And of course he Loved it and then the wonderful tantrums started up again...Somebody give me a power button...

8.05.2009

My Creative Space

Playing along for the 2nd week over at Kirsty's..I am more excited about checking out everyone else's Creative Space then posting mine..lol...

Anywho as you can see I am still working on my hats, I wish I could be a little more productive, having a 2yr old who thinks it's a game to grab your hand while you crochet is a bit of a challenge.Since the other kiddos are on vacation for yet another week I am sure my time will be filled more with keeping him busy then being productive on the hat front..Oh wells.....But in other news I really need to find some time to clean up my crafty supplies..It can wait right???

Crochet Bonnet...

I made a bonnet...I love it, Sorry I didn't have a real model to try it on but the bear will have to do :P It was a nice break from my other handmade hats but now that it is finished I need to get back to my regularly scheduled hat making. I will have to come back to these sooner or later..They are just too cute!!

8.04.2009

A word from the Dr.

So the appointment went fairly smooth. Other then well baby check ups Shay has never realy been to the Dr.'s so of course he was a bit unnerved by the whole procedure but overall I think he did very well..

From the PA's POV this is not a Hernia but more of a fluid filled sac or something along those lines. I forget the term he used. But it can be common and go away on it's own...They are scheduling an ultrasound to check things out a little closer and more then likely he will be referred to a urologist.

So as with most things Army it's a lot of hurry up and wait...He showed no signs of pain as he was checked out so that's a good thing. We'll just be praying it resovles itself so no further poking or prodding is needed...

Dr. appointment for Shay

Well about a month or so ago I noticed some swelling in Shay's "boy parts" on one side. It's not something I pay close attention to so I am not sure the exact time it started to occur but that was the first time I noticed it so that's what I am going with.

Anywho, when I first noticed I asked Scott to check it out, he didn't seem alarmed so I didn't worry..Well last night he fell asleep naked on the couch since we are venturing down the potty training path. And the swelling was very noticeable because of the way he was laying...I had Daddy check again and he agreed it was not normal..And mentioned that it might be a hernia....Of course I semi-freaked out cause well that means a dr.'s visit and the dreaded word "surgery"....I went and did some google research..GOTTA LOVE GOOGLE..And I am pretty convinced he is going to need surgery which is freaking me out of course...The good thing is it doesn't seem to bother him too much, he does show signs of sensitivity to the area but it's not discolored or in any recognizable pain. But of course there is still something wrong that will more then likely need medical intervention and I am biting my nails just thinking about it...

I called in to make an appointment today and they got us in today to have it checked out...I am hoping they determine it's not an emergency situation so that we can have it taken care of..."should he need surgery" after Scott gets back home from being in the field for 3 weeks starting this Friday...

Here I was stressing about School starting up dealing with the kids getting into the swing of things again without a hubby around to help keep order and apparently that's just not enough to worry about.

So anywho I will update later once we get back but keep the little guy in your prayers..TIA!!!
